Time to focus and distribute!

Time to focus and distribute!

Okay just write.  Everytime I come here to write I get lost in the design layout, or the design, or how it works and what site to use.  I really just need to write so here it is.

I’m lost in my own ways, I have 3 drafts of blog post, written months apart and my life keeps changing as does my focus, wtf.

Today I sit on 3 “not for profit boards”, I own and operate a business that performs well and now has branched off into a few others that we are getting off the ground.  However, they could just be disctractions.  Either way, I need to review and refocus my energy.

Follow me along my path as I redirect both the personal and business me that has become so very complicated.

What I need to figure out is goals.  I’m going to work through this live, and maybe this blog lives and maybe it dies.  Here I work through it.

Things I need to do:

Fix my time, personally I have very little spare time and commit most of it to my business. While i feel responsible for the business, and I commit this time because there isn’t enough people at work to do all the things I feel I need to do.  So, fixing my time is reviewing ALL of the things I do and either eliminating or hiring for it.

  1. Not for profits
    1. MS Society – I sit on this committee to plan the MS Bike, this is something I truly enjoy doing at the event.  However, it has escalated to time commitments throughout the year that do not produce results that will help me in my life goals
    2. CPRN – President, yes fucking president.  I have been since 2009.  Fortunately my time committment has dropped off but so has the organizations involvement in the community.  I have an addictive personality and a lot of pride in what I do. This role unfortunately takes me away from my business, and the organization has effectively died.  From the lack of engagement from volunteers, maybe as a result of my time committment, or maybe somethign else.  This weighs heavily on me as I care about the things I represent, but have to focus my time on things that give to my future goals.  This isn’t one of them.  To solve this, I need to find asuccessor or a smaller group of people willing to come in and take this over.
    3. MADD – I sit on this committee that meets once every 2 months.  This has been benficial for my business, though donating has cost us money as well, it is a good touch for the community and really doesn’t take MUCH of my time.  I beleive there is value to this. Although this organization is likely to shut down in the near future I can support it from my business perspective.  But not my time perspective.  Easy enough.
    4. CarShowNFP – President, Yes, president again.  I stepped up as the previous president bailed and she did it ALL.  Myself and my business partner thought we should step up to give this great community event alive.  As we approached the event, this is a TIME SUCK.  This does not help, this does not work, this is consuming my pride and time.  Again, could be great for my business, could be great for my community, but cannot be me.  My time, my effort, my focus, this was a waste of it.  We had to cancel the event because of weather conditions, but it was a huge relief having to cancel.  There is still some more work to close out from the event, but I really need to think about this and my time committments for next year, as planning should start in Feb, 2023.  Similarily the MS Bike tour plan starts.
  2. My Business’
    1. TowingCo – The monster, the growth, the time consumer. This is my business!  This is where my time should be focused, but being as big as we are it shouldn’t suck the life out of me.  This is my biggest time suck, but also the one most deserving of it, 110%.  However, within this, I am wearing multiple hats due to labour shortages and cash flow.  Things that need my focus to solve!  Later i’ll outline my goals that will set the tone for what’s to come.
    2. Consulting Co – I run this off the side of my desk, and takes roughly 2-3 hours a month if we average it out of the year.  It’s a disctraction, but it does help with various items on my primary business.  This I believe is also a valuable use of my time
    3. Group Co – This is just getting off the ground, I have had very little time available to put fourth effort into this, but this could provide avery healthy return and compliments my primary.  Though this isn’t HIGH on my list, there may be future value and this deserves some more of my time.
    4. Training Co – I kicked this off, put some of my team on it and it has made progress.  There is way more potential than what we’ve done and in the recent months I’ve completley disconnected from it becuase of the other events I’d had on the go that aren’t good.
    5. Market Co – Another huge potential company that has taken very little of my time but I believe deserves more.  Sales should be the focus here, but that comes with a different time committment as well.
  3. Set Life Goals
    1. I have always had the goal to be able to retire by 40.  I’m less than 4 years away from this and I feel overwhelmed and that I’m working more than I ever have before.
      1. Define retirement (i’ll write more about this later)
      2. Understand as defined what it means and make a plan to get there
    2. Lose weight, or get in shape or whatever that is.  Just be better at being healthy, eat better, and move more!
    3. I cannot get #2 done if I don’t focus on my time.  That time will be reacquired by finding replacements for me at not for profits as well as the medial tasks I do daily at my company.
      1. Practice and perfect delegation
      2. Help my Mangers delegate and become more efficient
      3. Then STEP OFF

Now that I’ve outlined the above, it’s time to double down on me, focus on me, and drive to the success I need.

Off I go to stir shit up at the office and find more delegates and try to perfect that skill as well as finding replacements for my roles in not for profits.  Looking at all of the above, delegate is what’s need and taking my time.

Maybe I should go back and read the ‘Four Hour Work Week’… yup as soon as i’m done Rich Dad Poor Dad!
